While visiting Puerto Penasco, Mexico I was attracted to the Sand rails
that people used for transportation around town and on the dunes.
I wanted to buy one of those things and started reading articles on them
but Momma was not too enthused about riding in a rolling frame with an
engine. We compromised on the dune buggies and again started
my research and the DBA website was a good start. On a trip down
there last February, I noticed a dune buggy for sale on the
RV Park bulletin board and although it had some minor surface rust, the
price was right and it looked good. Naturally, I had to take pictures
of my newly acquired dune buggy and began the process to identify my car.
I started with the DBA guys and they referred me to
The Jeffries Kyote
website and the ball kept on rolling. I was further referred
to Dean Jefferies by Dan from the
Jeffries Kyote website. I found out that my Kyote I was a rare find
and that changed my thoughts about how I would utilize my dune buggy.
At first thought, this buggy would be just a cheap transportation
around Puerto Penasco, therefore, I would invest just the minimum amount
of cash to keep it running, never mind the appearance. Well,
things have changed and now I have installed a new 1600 engine, new
tranny, completely R&R the brake system, new KYB shocks, new starter,
new generator, lots of chrome and adding more. I have now tripled
my expenses from my original purchase price, but momma is not grumbling
and I'm as happy as a kid with a new toy.
That's the story of one happy dune buggy owner.
